random tidings of a saturday in january

iiiiinteresting...well, today is saturday. spent some time in Turner's Falls, having lunch and walking around taking pictures. Bought this little book On Bullshit for philosophical shits and giggles. We'll see how it turns out...its small, i should actually be able to finish it. Btw, the bookstore, albeit on the small side, had quite an impressive collection of good books, less filla, more vanilla. If ever in the area I recommend checking it out...its called Books and More, its near the Shady Glenn, 15% discount for teachers!...DSC number 7 was great, great presentations. I realized I was pretty nervous about showing my photos, good experience though...good feedback. I think people thought I was kidding when I said something about my photos and the song somehow reflecting a part of my soul...hmmm...life is turbulent, the mind is turbulent... even days like today can be a rollercoaster ride of emotions...i really wasn't kidding...ah well. Slideshow available here...its a rather large file (43megs). song by Duane Peters Gunfight called "War With You".

Photos were really great. Thx for taking the risk and showing them. I, for one, am not laughing about the soul reference. I get it.... tho I would love to have a conversation about it, in person.

btw..what was the title of the track? by..........

in ref to the soul comment...i think, for me, the high contrast black and white represents a world that doesn't exist, maybe a way of seeing a world that i wish i could...where things have a certain clarity tothem, the stark contrast also flattens a lot of perception, i find myself looking at the whole picture, not always individual parts like i find i do with color. a lot of these shots too...i realized...fit with general themes of a harsh reality, occasionally broken by sweetness or a human face. the song, War With You I think creates a mood for viewing these pictures that doesn't strip them of whatever deeper reflective/revelation power they may or may not have...more later...jess just pointed out to me that the video doesn't play the audio because it is a protected/purchased song. damnit Apple! time to reexport...

mmm.. I like those thots.

Similarly....to me anyway....in the piece I saw images (as opposed to pictures??) many of which depict limits: fences, barriers, screens, no parking, compact only -- interspersed occasionally with images which repesent nurture, calm, tranquility, & comfort. Seemed a lot like life experience: many barriers... high contrast... occasional comfort and peace.

I have not looked at it again (since last night;s presentation) but I will......

bummer about the music tho.
