Snowshoeing and more ice climbing. Climbed with AMC NH groups on two occasions, Rutz a couple times and Sean and I got in quite a few good days. Got Jess out for her first climb too in Keene, short ice lead overplacing screws right and left. Jess seconded my lead and pulled all my screws! Nicely done!

Mt. Washington Valley Ice Fest in Feb was awesome. Sean and I slept in the back of the Tacoma for two nights, took a class with IMECS (thanks Zeb!)...snow and ice anchors and then climbed at Texaco Ampitheater on Sunday. Wicked good weekend!

Went to CO in Sept to see K and N and J before she went to Rwanda. What a place! Then lots of time out of doors this winter, got out ice climbing almost every week from mid Dec through beginning of March. Took an AIARE level 1 course and did Mt. Washington Ice Fest with Sean (Snow and Ice anchors class through IMECS). Then Ecuador in March. Its been a good year, lots of new stuff, lots to think about, process and contemplate. Love it! Also not on Facebook anymore so this will have to suffice as my out for internerd related rants and narcissism.

well its october, the frost was thick monday morning, i'm going between freaking cold and sweating hot on the job. must be fall in new england. Lexie has developed some sort of weird kink in her body when she wags...we're going to get it checked out by the vet next week. sleep, tea, coffee, work, food, work, beer, sleep repeat. thank God for the Pogues, Lenny, and faithful companions.

I'm constantly worrying about money, work and the economy lately. when did that happen? 5 years on and we're still involved in two wars we can't win. And we have 4000 dead troops who've "laid the foundations for freedom" blah blah blah for what? So that this war doesn't have to be fought on American soil? Great, we can continue to ruin the lives of those in distant lands to maintain our gluttonous lifestyles here. I'm torn between joy that we here in America are waking up to the fact that our neo-fascist empire of greed, in the name of "democracy", is nearing its end and panic at the prospects for our future. I think Orwell had it right when he said in 1938 (of the Spanish Civil war) that "It is nonsense to talk of opposing Fascism by bourgeois "democracy". Bourgeois "democracy" is only another name for capitalism, and so is Fascism; to fight against Fascism on behalf of "democracy" is to fight against one form of capitalism on behalf of a second which is liable to turn into the first at any moment." I suppose it is the realization of all generations but I still can't help but feel that the world I've naively treasured for so long and dreamed of raising kids in is dead...

moving, flying, working, running out of work, and the full gamut of emotions that come with the twists of life. had the chance to help josh and carrie some more this weekend getting into their new place. The Sonoma/Napa valley area is one of the most beautiful places I've been, even in the middle of winter. I'll try to get up more pictures later on, I took 400+ over the last 3 days so I've a bit of sorting out to do. Back home now, down to the crunch of the house and finding work. Trying to let some of the Norcal chill vibe carry over. Miss you guys!

the break in cold weather certainly calls for rejoicing.
a while back colleen gave me an atom and his package album which i enjoyed but lost in the shuffle of music mayhem in my head until today. now i'm enjoying it thoroughly again.
our house is housetastic. maybe we'll be done with the upstairs by soon.
Lexi (correction on previous spelling) is rad. she impresses me daily with how quickly she learns.
i miss skateboarding. going on 3+ months and 10lbs since I set foot on my skate.
playing music with rad people again is super fun. maybe i'll post some samples someday.
i'm gonna miss my friends when they move to california in three weeks.

Hey blogging is fun. I forgot. Where did the summer go?? I'm kind of tripping on the idea that I don't have to go back to school in the fall. WOW. First time in 16 years. That is freaking insane. The new Far From Finished record is also WOW. Totally amazing. Yeah. We close on the house on Tuesday now, I'm trying to hold it together and not panic regarding the work to be done. Damn. It has been 2 months since I've posted. Wow. Those two months have flown by SOO fast. I graducated grad school, hell yeah, working like a fiend, sweet, and Jess and I are buying a house! We close a week from tomorrow. July 28, 5pm till we stop party at our new place for my birthday!! Because I'm paranoid I won't list the address here but send me an email if you want to come. You all know you do. It'll be a grand time. Don't be lame! Place needs a fair amount of work, but, hopefully we'll be able to pull it off with a little help from our friends. Friends are rad.
Brett and Tappy and I have been framing in New York off and on for a couple of weeks. Grand time, Mr. Safety Takes A Holiday at points for sure. Hopefully they'll be done with the billion pound oak trusses soon so we can go back and put the roof on. Oi Vey!

rocking out to quiet riot helps a bit, trying to focus and finish some work for the night but its been a while since I've blogged... Only a week and a half left of grad school (or "hell" as I like to think of it from time to time...but only sometimes). In other news, I have determined that my body really can no longer handle coffee sized doses of caffiene. Cutting my consumption down to black tea really really changed things, proof positive: 2 cups of Rao's coffee last night sent me on a caffiene bender like I've never experienced before, worst night ever...well since Friday. On that (health) note, apparently everyone else got the memo but I found out the hard way that eating a sucker fish is a TERRIBLE idea. I will think of them as mercury saturated death fish from here on out. Enought of this nonsense, I've got shit to do and hopefully not too many miles before I sleep. john mellonramp is getting a facelift

brett and I, due to our recent lack of gainful employment, decided to stop freaking out and feeling sorry for our respective selves and get something done on the ramp (hey work is work even if it doesn't pay!). Mellonramp is getting a facelift for the spring people! We have a ton of salvaged lumber that has been sitting around, and lots of ideas for the ramp, so: bank goes byby, that side of the ramp will be raised to 6 feet, the deck was in serious need of repair so that too is gone. We'll pour concrete coping on the new deck. Opposite that there will be a new drop in, about 12 inches wide and two feet high. Its going to be sick. So we froze our asses off for a bit yesterday and then ate some pizza and then had a pint.

Just devoted 50 min to watching this riviting report as I struggle to find statistics on civilian deaths in Iraq for a final project. Iraq: The Hidden Story I highly recommend watching this piece, there are several intensly disturbing images, so please beware. But, I think this represents a part of the picture of the escalating violence and the removed nature of those in power/those occupying that we will not see in the U.S.

i know its getting to be (really) towards the end of the semester when the corner of my right eye starts twichting from the stress. as always there is tons to do, only now the tons of stuff to be done has told me my time is up and I better hurry up and finish, or face certain doom at the hands of my professors. oh that I where doing less, and could actually enjoy/put a lot of energy into just a few things, and do them really well. it is odd that as i get closer and closer to the end of my tenure as a grad student i become less and less sure that i am actually going to be able to pull everything together and finish. and this semester, unlike last, and the last before that, i don't have a few hours week to look forward to skating on the ramp. damn dampness, damn lack of tarp.

so this evening i found myself at a local drinking establishment that i have never frequented before with two good friends, the pints were tasty and delicious, the food was good, the service was great. right around the time we left the bartenders told us of some drama unfolding on the other side of the bar, a married yuppie in his late 30's was apparently there with one of two of his girlfriends, she was drunk and a wreck, he pretended he didn't know who she was, she lay on the ground in front of her car, and then tried to buy him and his friends their drinks. he left without her and she took off in her bmw totally cocked and crying. i really just wanted to walk over to this dude and punch the f$^ker in his face. thats not something i feel very often. but that would make me his judge, his jury and his executioner, not to mention that i'd probably go to jail for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. so i did nothing. what a stupid stupid sad, messed up situation. kind of ruined my night. lesson learned: don't be a kook. amazing how many people, especially people in power today are like that asshole, self absorbed, self serving, lying, idiots. and that line isn't too far from the rest of us: so let us live differently, flee temptation and live honorably. death to kooks.
